Therapy for Anxiety, Perfectionism, and Attachment Wounds in Florida

I provide therapy for high functioning adult professionals who struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, people pleasing, and unhealthy attachment patterns that keep them stuck in cycles of constantly trying to prove their worth to themselves and to others in their lives. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) offering in person therapy in Winter Park and online throughout the state of Florida. My work is framed by EMDR and trauma informed methods of treatment, Mindfulness based practices, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Primary Concerns I Treat

  • Anxiety, stress, and overwhelm

  • Perfectionism, low  self-worth, feeling "not good enough"

  • Procrastination, avoidance

  • Burnout, chronic stress related fatigue

  • Attachment issues

  • Repressed anger and resentment

  • people pleasing, hyper-independence

  • Lack of healthy boundaries

Clients I Typically Work With

I usually work with adult men and women who would generally describe themselves as high achieving, high functioning externally but often have difficult navigating their emotions, thoughts, and feelings. They often struggle with unrealized and unexpressed anger and resentment, usually as result of a long history of people pleasing, perfectionism, and high stress. They usually carry the emotional load and burden in their relationships, frequently avoiding expressing their own needs and instead attempting to manage their needs on their own. At the same time, they generally have trouble recognizing and identifying their feelings in the moment, accustomed to setting their needs aside, particularly during conflict. They could be described as hyper independent; they're more than ready to offer help to someone else and find it incredibly difficult to ask for and accept help from those around them. They may have strong social support but often feel isolated, alone, and misunderstood by their family, friends, and peers. Often, they want a place where they can be safely seen and heard without having to worry about managing anyone else's feelings or expectations. They have previously been described as "sensitive" by others around them for their emotional experiences. They're drawn to creative pursuits in their free time though struggle to allow themselves to enjoy creative hobbies unless it can be viewed as having a productive outcome. Productivity is frequently an important value to them.

My Approach

I believe in a strong collaborative and relational approach with my clients with the goal to help them develop a healthier relationship with themselves as well as others. I believe fully in the idea that my clients are the experts on themselves (even when they aren't certain of this). My role is to walk beside my clients on their journey, using my skills and knowledge to help them gain a deeper understanding of themselves by developing healthier connections with their body, their emotional state of being, and their thoughts. My work is insight oriented, exploring how underlying patterns keep my clients stuck, frustrated, and unable to create meaningful changes in their lives. I work intentionally with my clients to create a  plan that is specific to their individual needs instead of a "one size fits all" approach.

How We Do This:

  • Beginning slowly, identifying what realistic actions can be taken now without completely upsetting or dismantling how they currently function.

  • Exploring any unprocessed or unresolved past traumas that are keeping unhealthy patterns active in the clients life. This can include using EMDR if needed.

  • Creating greater connection between the mind and the body through mindfulness practices and guided visualization exercises

  • Getting to know your inner child and other parts of yourself that may need support and recognition.

  • Identifying, what needs to change in day to day living to support therapeutic changes (self-care, differently daily routines, and other supportive practices

  • Recognizing what boundaries need to be put into place and what boundaries may need to be reevaluated.

  • Exploring and challenging any belief systems that contribute to unsustainable patterns and high stress living.

"Is this right for me?"

This might be right for you if:

  • You know what the problem is but struggle to make consistent and lasting changes

  • Despite having numerous coping methods at your disposal, you continue to have trouble managing anxiety

  • You're ready to go deeper in your self-exploration, beyond symptom management in order to understand the root of it all

  • Despite how much you've accomplished, you continue to feel not good enough, unworthy, or have low self-worth

  • You're often overly critical of your loved ones, often dealing with unexpressed anger and resentment when they don't meet your needs

  • You continue looking for the next mountain to climb, the next goal to accomplish, or the next horizon to chase regardless of how successful you are.

  • You're able to commit to weekly sessions initially. Commitment to regular attendance has shown to have the strongest benefit for clients looking to create long term changes and success. I do not offer sessions biweekly or monthly at the start of treatment

This may not be for you if you are:

  • Wanting for highly structured, solution focused care aimed at skill building and crisis management.

  • Experiencing active suicidal thoughts or urges, urges to harm yourself or others, or are in need of acute crisis care immediately

  • Seeking short term therapy, biweekly or monthly therapy

  • Currently dealing with active substance use or unmanaged psychosis.

  • Court mandated to therapy

  • Looking for insurance based services
